Waste Water Treatment & Exhauster Services •

Naivasha Water and Sanitation Company Ltd provides exhauster services to areas within Naivasha Sub-county and its environs. The Company also has one main waste water treatment plant located in the outskirts of Naivasha Town.

Sewerage Treatment Process •

Sewerage treatment aims to convert waste water into acceptable levels to make the water safe for discharge back into the environment. It is done by removing contaminants from wastewater, primarily from household sewage. Physical, chemical, and biological processes are used to remove contaminants and produce treated wastewater.

Customers can apply for a household sewerage connection at the Naivasha Water and Sanitation Company office. The Sewerage is treated at the Sewerage Plant and then released in Lake Naivasha. The Treatment process is as follows;

• The waste water goes through the Screen after being received at the Inlet at the Sewerage Treatment Plant. The Screen stops any big objects from passing through to the Screw pump which lifts the waste water from the inlet to the Lagoon.
• The Lagoon, which is the main stage at the Treatment Plant, aerates the waste water to enable the microbes to oxygenate and aid in the decomposition of the organic matter. This is converted into a biomass which is able to settle as sludge in the Settler. Aeration also helps in getting rid of the strong stench at a Sewerage Treatment Plant.
• The heavy sludge that settles at the bottom is moved to the Thickener onto the Sludge Pump and finally to the Drying Beds.
• The water at the top moves to the first pond where the microbes continue with the process of reducing pollutants. This goes on in the second and third pond until the water is released from the treatment plant.
